Title: Contributions to Traditional Owner
Wellbeing: Girringun Aboriginal Corporation
Project Collaborators: BDTNRM, FNQ NRM
and River Consulting
Description: BDTNRM, in
partnership with the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation (Girringun)
is looking at the ways in which Girringun is contributing to the
wellbeing of the Nywaigi Traditional Owners. Based in
Cardwell, Girringun represents nine Traditional Owner groups in the
northern Burdekin Dry Tropics and southern Wet
Tropics NRM Regions. The Nywaigi is one of the nine groups
represented by Girringun.
This is the second part of a BDTNRM
study which found that family, community, health, country and
culture are the key contributors to the well being of Nywaigi
Traditional Owners while they were less content with their level of
knowledge about culture and lore (Greiner et al 2005). The second
phase of this research will look more specifically at how Girringun
is contributing to Traditional Owner well being for their own
communities.
