Dairying Better 'n' Better

Dairying Better 'n' Better for Tomorrow worked with a group of dairy farmers to increase their profitability, competitiveness and sustainability by adopting on-farm natural resource management practices. The group represented five dairy farms located on the Eungella range, close  to areas of high conservation significance. These are the only dairy producers between Rockhampton and the Atherton Tablelands.

The project

  • identified and prioritised natural resource management issues on each dairy farm
  • Linked natural resource management issues to sustainable on-farm management practices
  • Increased dairy farmers' understanding of the relationship between their management practices and the BDT NRM Plan.
  • Improved the understanding about the relationship between on-farm practices and current resource condition of the environment
  • Encouraged adoption of current recomended management practices addressing farm, catchment and regional priorities
  • Built dairy farmers' capacity to manage the natural resources on their farms into the future
  • Improved awareness of natural resource management monitoring activities relevant to dairy farmers
  • Implemented strategic on-ground works
